- Black Women Will Save The World: An Anthem (2022) by April Ryan
This book acknowledges and celebrates the courage and power of African American women. As a White House Correspondent, April Ryan weaves her challenges as “the only one” for years in the white house briefing room with the voices of Black women on Capitol Hill fighting against voter suppression and other issues affecting the African American community. These women are Black Women Solutionaries waging the war to protect democracy.
- Lead From The Outside: How To Build Your Future And Make Real Change (2019) by Stacey Abrams This book is part autobiography and part “how-to.” It is a personal look at how to create change from outside the institutions of power. This book provides inspiration and encouragement to people on the margins. Anyone can lead and create change. This book is a testimony to the power of advocacy. - The Purpose of Power: How We Come Together When We Fall Apart (2020) by Alicia Garza This book delves into the personal life and leadership philosophies of Alicia Garza one of the founders of the Black Lives Matter Movement. For the social activist, or anyone wanting to create change, this book outlines the challenges of confronting systems of oppression. The book artfully blends strategies for change with the importance of self-care. Alicia Garza defines a Black Women Solutionaries.
- QUALIFIED: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work (2025) by Shari Dunn. In this book Shari Dunn combines deep research with enlightening interviews and anecdotes to uncover the history of Competency Checking, the hidden hand assessing the qualifications of Black and other people of color.
